Boston, MA The 2024 New England Intercollegiate Outdoor Track & Field Championships (NEICAAA) are set for this upcoming weekend, May 10-11 at the Hart Track, College of The Holy Cross, Worcester, MA. The meeting combines both the men’s and women’s championships to be conducted over two days.

The men’s NEICAAA outdoor championships began in 1887 and was contested at Charter Oak Park, Hartford, Ct. It is the second oldest annually contested NCAA outdoor championships in the U.S., behind only the Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association of America (IC4A’s) which began in 1876. This marks the 135th annual championships for the men. Only in 1917 (WW1) and 2020 (Covid-19 Pandemic) were the men’s championships not contested.

The women began their championships in 1975 as a separate entity from the men. In the early years, the women’s championships were contested under the umbrella of the New England Women Intercollegiate Cross Country, Track and Field Association. Finally in 2003 both organizations agreed to a merger. The championships, moving forward for both men and women, became known as the NEICAAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This year will be the 48th women’s championships. Like the men. No championships were contested in 2000 due to the pandemic.

Twenty-two events will be contested for both the men and women, including the men’s decathlon and the women’s heptathlon, which will be contested over two days.
