URI Breaks Ground for Outdoor Track

Kingston, R.I. - University of Rhode Island (URI) held a groundbreaking ceremony on October 16 for its new outdoor track and field facility, set to open by summer 2026. Located on the Kingston Campus along West Alumni Avenue, the event included remarks from Governor Dan McKee, House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi, URI President Marc Parlange, and other university leaders. The state-of-the-art facility will feature a nine-lane IAAF Class 2 certified track, multiple jump and throw areas, and is part of a larger $65.8 million Rhode Island Capital Plan investment in URI athletics.
