BOSTON - Grant Cartwright, who has led the Boston University throws unit to unprecedented success as an assistant coach for five seasons, has been promoted to director of track & field and cross country, as announced by director of athletics Drew Marrochello on Monday.
Since arriving at BU, Cartwright has led both the men's and women's throwers to their first national squad rankings in shot put, discus, hammer and weight throw. The program's top-10 lists for all throwing events have been nearly rewritten during Cartwright's tenure, including a school record in the weight throw.
A former four-time All-American at Michigan, Cartwright joined the BU staff in 2019 following one season as an assistant coach at his alma mater.
"We are thrilled to announce that Grant Cartwright will be elevated to director of our cross country and track & field programs," said Marrochello. "The quality of success and overall experience that so many of our student-athletes have gained in recent years is in direct correlation to Grant's growth as a coach and as a leader. His dedication and pride in building our throws unit combined with his care for our student-athletes made him an ideal candidate for this position, and we look forward to him guiding the entire group."
