Amherst, MA — Due to forecasted heavy rains and potential thunderstorms on Friday, the NEICAAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships originally scheduled as a two-day meet will now be held as a one-day event on Saturday, May 10, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at UMass Amherst.
After discussions with UMass staff and the Seeding Committee, meet organizers determined that unsafe conditions and limited university staffing make a Saturday/Sunday option unfeasible. The revised plan consolidates the championship into a single day to preserve competitive integrity and athlete safety.
Key changes include:
Multi-events (decathlon/heptathlon) will not be contested.
All track events with prelims will be run as timed finals.
Field events will proceed as scheduled.
The meet will begin with the 10,000m and 5000m.
Estimated finish is 6:30 p.m.
Entries on DirectAthletics have been reopened to accommodate schedule changes and will close at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Seeding Committee will reconvene Wednesday evening, with final entries and a revised schedule released shortly after.
UMass has successfully hosted large-scale meets this season, and meet organizers are confident they will deliver a smooth and competitive event under the new format.
More information and the updated schedule will be posted Wednesday morning.
